Important information
A Data Subject Access Request is your legal right to obtain the personal information held about you by Synectics Solutions. You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data or exercise any of your other rights.
Synectics Solutions has up to one month to respond with a copy of any information held. Where no information is held, you will receive a letter to confirm this.
Synectics Solutions is a fraud prevention agency. The information held by us is submitted by finance and insurance organisations to detect and prevent fraud. What is a Data Subject Access Request?
A Data Subject Access Request or DSAR, is your legal right to obtain the personal information held about you by an organisation.

How do I submit a Data Subject Access Request and what is the process?
Please complete a Subject Access Request Form (at the top of this page). Please pay attention to the information that you must provide to make the request valid (Section 2 of the Form).
Though you are under no obligation to complete the form, we will only be able to search using the information you provide in your identification documents: Name and Date of Birth on your identification document and your current address on the proof of address document.
When your application is received, it will be checked to ensure that all requested documentation has been provided.
Where the request is not valid, this will be returned to you along with a reason for not accepting the request.
If your application is accepted, Synectics Solutions have up to one calendar month to respond with a copy of any information held. Where no information is held, you will receive a response to confirm this.
Depending on what you have opted for, Synectics Solutions shall send your results using Recorded delivery with Royal Mail for Post, or email (report will be encrypted and password sent to mobile provided by you). Due to resource constraints, we are unable to send your results using both methods.
After the response has been made by Synectics Solutions, your completed Data Subject Access Request shall be retained for 12 months from the date of the final correspondence before it is destroyed, unless there has been an issue; in which case, we may keep it for up to two years.

Do I have to pay to make a Data Subject Access Request?
You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive, or excessive and we will inform you of the fee and seek your acceptance of it prior to complying with your request.

Why am I on a fraud prevention database?
Before our clients provide services, goods, or financing to you, they may undertake checks for the purposes of preventing fraud and money laundering, and to verify your identity. These checks require them and us to process personal data about you.

What is the difference between a Credit Referencing Agency and a Fraud Prevention Agency?
A credit referencing agency holds, processes, and makes available to financial and insurance organisations, certain public information (electoral roll, county court judgements) and payment history data – this is often referred to as either your credit history, credit file, or credit report.
Fraud prevention agencies hold information used for the prevention of fraud.

Is Synectics Solutions a Credit Reference Agency or Fraud Prevention Agency?
Synectics Solutions is a fraud prevention agency. Synectics Solutions does not provide credit history information. Making a Data Subject Access Request to Synectics Solutions will not provide you with a copy of your credit file.

How can I get hold of the information seen by an organisation when I make an application?
Any organisation will usually obtain a copy of your credit file from a credit referencing agency and check the application with a fraud prevention agency. You can request for a copy of your credit file by applying for a statutory credit report from a credit referencing agency.
You can make a Data Subject Access Request to a fraud prevention agency to see if they hold any information about you.

Can you explain to me, or simply tell me, the reasons why an organisation has declined my application?
This information is not available to Synectics Solutions: we do not make decisions regarding financial products or services or have access to this information. To obtain further details, you will need to contact the company that has made the decision.

My Insurer is cancelling my policy and has directed me to Synectics Solutions - how can you help?
You can make a Data Subject Access Request to obtain a copy of the information we hold; this may have been used by the insurer when making their decision. Synectics Solutions cannot tell you why your policy was cancelled as this decision was taken by the insurer.
Please note: A Data Subject Access Request can only be made by an individual and our database will only return the information about that single person. Where there are others named on the policy, they will need to make a separate Data Subject Access Request to see data held about them.

My existing bank/building society has written to me and is going to close my bank account, can you tell me why?
You can make a Data Subject Access Request to obtain a copy of the information we hold; this may have been used by the banks/building societies when making their decision. Synectics Solutions cannot tell you why your account was closed as this decision was taken by banks/building societies.

I think I may have been the victim of fraud, will making a subject access request help?
Synectics Solutions is a fraud prevention agency and requesting information which we hold about you could help you to identify if there is a problem in this area. As fraud is illegal, you may wish to contact the police for assistance; there is a dedicated site at www.actionfraud.police.uk which contains useful information.
Your results will show if an organisation has flagged an application as ‘Victim’ status.

Can Synectics Solutions tell me what information is held by CIFAS?
No, Synectics Solutions are not able to provide any information which has originated from CIFAS. You can make a Data Subject Access Request to CIFAS; further information is on their website at www.cifas.org.uk.
